Thirteen balls. That is all Yashasvi Jaiswal needed to score the fastest fifty in IPL history, doing it against KKR at Eden Gardens in 2023 while chasing 150. 

Between 2014 and 2026, 10 other innings have entered this list, each completed in 16 balls or fewer. Three players share the second-fastest mark at 14 balls. 

Jake Fraser-McGurk is the only batter to appear twice. What connects every innings on this list is not just speed. 

Someone, somewhere, was in serious trouble before the batter walked in.

IPL Fastest Fifties in History

Eleven innings. Eleven moments where the bowling attack never saw it coming.

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rajasthan Royals) – 13 Balls

The chase was 150 at Eden Gardens. By the time KKR worked out what was happening, Jaiswal had already won the game.

He reached his fifty in 13 balls, hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes to that point. Jos Buttler had fallen for a duck in the second over, but the scoreboard barely noticed. 

Jaiswal had already taken the chase apart on his own. By the end of the powerplay, Rajasthan had 78 on the board and Jaiswal was personally on 62.

Samson contributed 48 off 29 in an unbroken second-wicket stand of 121. But the tone was set long before that partnership grew. Jaiswal’s final score of 98 off 47 included 12 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 208.51.

KKR used seven bowlers, and none escaped. Nitish Rana went for 26 in a single over. Anukul Roy conceded 20 in one. Even Varun Chakravarthy, their most trusted option, leaked 28 from 3 overs. Rajasthan won by 9 wickets with 41 balls remaining.

2. KL Rahul (Kings XI Punjab) – 14 Balls

Nobody defends a 166-run total at PCA Mohali with any real confidence. Rahul made sure they had no chance at all.

He opened the batting and reached fifty in 14 balls, striking 6 fours and 4 sixes before Trent Boult removed him for 51 off 16. Kings XI ended the powerplay at 73/2 with a run rate above twelve. The game was effectively settled before the fifth over was done.

Karun Nair steadied the middle overs with 50 off 33, and David Miller finished the job unbeaten. Kings XI won by 6 wickets with 7 balls to spare. Amit Mishra conceded 46 in 4 overs. Andrew Tye went for 38 in 4. Delhi’s bowlers simply had no answer for what came at them in those first few overs.

3. Pat Cummins (Kolkata Knight Riders) – 14 Balls

Five wickets down, sixty-one still needed, the lower order exposed at MCA Pune. Most batters read that situation and try to survive. Cummins read it and decided the fastest way out was through.

He walked in at 101/5 in the 14th over and reached his fifty in 14 balls, hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes to the milestone. 

His final score of 56 off 15 carried a strike rate of 373.33. The sixth-wicket stand with Venkatesh Iyer produced 50 runs in 16 balls. Iyer scored 4 of them.

Daniel Sams was the primary target, conceding 50 in 3 overs at an economy of 16.66. Dale Steyn had already leaked 43 in 4 before Cummins arrived. KKR crossed the target in the 16th over, winning by 5 wickets with 24 balls remaining. Cummins had also taken 2 wickets in Mumbai’s innings earlier. The Player of the Match award was not a difficult decision.

4. Romario Shepherd (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) – 14 Balls

Fourteen balls of the innings remained when Shepherd walked in. That was more than enough.

RCB were 157/5 after 17.4 overs with the game drifting. No venue in the IPL punishes a tired bowling attack in the death quite like Chinnaswamy, and Shepherd made full use of it. He reached his fifty in 14 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes and finished at 53 off 14 balls at a strike rate of 378.57, the highest final innings strike rate in this list.

The sixth-wicket stand between Shepherd and Tim David produced 50 runs in 14 balls. David contributed just 1 of those runs. RCB finished at 213/5.

CSK needed 214 and ended at 211/5. RCB won by 2 runs. The margin separating the two teams was exactly what Shepherd scored. Without those 14 balls, this match has a different result entirely.

5. Yusuf Pathan (Kolkata Knight Riders) – 15 Balls

KKR were 78/4 chasing 161 and the chase was falling apart. What followed was barely a cricket match.

Pathan walked in and dismantled the SRH bowling before the scoreboard could reflect the damage. He reached his fifty in 15 balls and finished with 72 off 22, striking 5 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 327.27. 

Eden Gardens rewards clean hitting, and Pathan gave it exactly that.

Karn Sharma had taken 4 wickets earlier and looked threatening throughout the KKR innings. That did not matter once Pathan arrived. Robin Uthappa had set a decent foundation at the top with 41 off 30, and Gautam Gambhir contributed 28 off 18 in the early overs. 

But this match belonged entirely to Pathan from the moment he came in. KKR won by 4 wickets with 34 balls remaining.

6. Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders) – 15 Balls

Ask any bowler who has tried to defend a total at Chinnaswamy and the answer is usually the same. It never feels like enough.

RCB gave KKR a 159-run target. Narine opened and made the chase a formality before the first strategic timeout. He reached his fifty in 15 balls and finished with 54 off 17, hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 317.64. 

Chris Lynn matched the aggression at the other end, reaching his own fifty in 21 balls and finishing with 50 off 22. Together they put on 105 for the first wicket in 6.1 overs, meaning the powerplay effectively accounted for the entire chase.

Samuel Badree conceded 40 in 3 overs. Sreenath Aravind went for 26 in a single over. Narine fell in the 7th over, and Lynn followed in the 8th, but KKR needed very little from their remaining batters. They crossed the target in 15.1 overs, winning by 6 wickets.

7. Nicholas Pooran (Lucknow Super Giants) – 15 Balls

Three wickets gone in the powerplay, KL Rahul scoring at under a run a ball, and a target of 213 staring them down at Chinnaswamy. LSG looked beaten. Pooran had not read that script.

He came in at 99/4 and refused to let the game die quietly. Pooran reached his fifty in 15 balls and finished with 62 off 19, hitting 4 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 326.31. 

Marcus Stoinis had done the hard work before him, scoring 65 off 30 to keep LSG in the chase. But it was Pooran who shifted the gear entirely.

Harshal Patel conceded 48 from his 4 overs. Karn Sharma leaked 48 in 3. LSG won by 1 wicket off the final ball of the match, finishing at 213/9. RCB had posted 212/2 and still lost.

8. Jake Fraser-McGurk (Delhi Capitals) – 15 Balls vs SRH (2024)

SRH had just plundered 266 at Arun Jaitley. The total looked untouchable. Fraser-McGurk’s response was to treat the first six overs like a counterattack.

He opened and reached his fifty in 15 balls, hitting 5 fours and 5 sixes to that point. His final score of 65 off 18 carried a strike rate of 361.11. 

Delhi closed the powerplay at 88/2, meaning the run rate was still alive even after he fell in the final ball of the 7th over.

Washington Sundar went for 46 in just 2 overs. Shahbaz Ahmed conceded 22 in 1. Arun Jaitley is a true pitch with a quick outfield and Fraser-McGurk used every bit of it. Delhi fell short eventually, bowled out for 199, but the opener had done nothing wrong.

9. Jake Fraser-McGurk (Delhi Capitals) – 15 Balls vs MI (2024)

Seven days after doing it against SRH, Fraser-McGurk did it again at the exact same ground against a completely different attack. Some batters have a venue. This was becoming his.

He reached fifty in 15 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes to the milestone, and finished with 84 off 27 at a strike rate of 311.11. 

Abishek Porel contributed 36 off 27 at the other end, and the first-wicket stand put on 114 before Fraser-McGurk fell in the 8th over.

Luke Wood went for 68 in 4 overs. Nuwan Thushara conceded 56 in 4. Jasprit Bumrah, MI’s most reliable option, gave away 35 in 4 but could not control what was happening at the other end. Delhi finished at 257/4. 

Mumbai were bowled out for 247 in reply. Delhi won by 10 runs.

10. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals) – 15 Balls vs CSK (2026)

A 128-run chase in Guwahati was never supposed to become a theatre. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi turned it into one anyway.

Dropped early on 0, the 15-year-old responded by tearing into CSK straight away. He brought up his fifty in just 15 balls and finished with 52 off 17, smashing 4 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 305.88.

He set the tone in the powerplay, taking apart both pace and spin before Chennai could settle. Matt Henry disappeared for 18 in the first over, Anshul Kamboj got hit for boundaries and a six, and Noor Ahmad was launched twice over long-on as Vaibhav reached the milestone in style.

By the end of the sixth over, Rajasthan were already 74 without loss, and the chase was basically over.

He fell in the seventh, trying to keep going, but by then the damage was done. RR chased 128 in just 12.1 overs, winning by 8 wickets with 47 balls left.

10. Suresh Raina (Chennai Super Kings) – 16 Balls vs KXIP

A knockout match at Wankhede, a target of 227, and Faf du Plessis gone for a duck off the second ball. CSK needed someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck immediately. Raina walked in at 1/1 and did exactly that.

He reached his fifty in 16 balls, striking 7 fours and 4 sixes to the milestone. His final innings of 87 off 25 included 12 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 348.00. 

CSK reached 100 inside the powerplay with Raina doing the bulk of the damage, falling as the third wicket at that exact score in the 7th over.

Parvinder Awana was the primary target, going for 59 in 4 overs. Mitchell Johnson conceded 44 in 4. Despite everything Raina produced, CSK finished at 202/7 and fell short. Kings XI won by 24 runs and advanced to the final. 

It remains one of the great knockout innings, ending in defeat.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 13-ball fifty against KKR in 2023 remains the fastest half-century in IPL history.

Only three other batters have reached fifty in 14 balls, while the 15-ball bracket has now grown even stronger with young 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive knock against CSK in 2026.

Romario Shepherd’s 378.57 strike rate is still the highest final innings mark on this list, and Jake Fraser-McGurk remains the only player to appear twice.

These are not just quick fifties for the record books. Most of them bent the match so hard that the result barely had time to argue.
